On July 9 started the registration for the European Food Tourism Week within the Universal exhibition Expo 2015 (May 1 to October 31) in Milan. The EU food tourism event will take place between 28 and 30 September. Food and beverages (F&B) producers, non-governmental organizations, tour operators, travel agencies and representatives of small and medium businesses in food and tourism industry will participate in the event with the aim to meet at one place and discuss the forthcoming challenges, trends and opportunities for both industries united by the gourmet trips, gaining more and more popularity in Europe.
Many European destinations rely on the advantages of the food tourism, so the basic idea of the events during those three days at Expo Milan 2015 will be the preservation of the diversity and traditions of European cuisine, food and wine production and promoting them as a major attraction for generating even more trips throughout Europe. Since several years the European Commission has developped policies and schemes to ensure the quality and origin of the local food and beverages. The scheme TSG (traditional speciality guaranteed) certifies the traditional ways in the production of food, while the standards PDO (protected designation of origin) and PGI (protected geographical indication) emphasize on the guaranteed origin and local characteristics of the product. These schemes are applied in parallel with the existing national standards such as the well known wine classifications in many countries like France, Italy, Spain, etc.
Here is the program for the first and most interesting day within the European Food Tourism Week in Milan Expo 2015, September 28- 30:
